Category X: Gender in the 21st Century

The Category X project seeks to understand rapidly changing meanings and categories of gender around the world. Through collaborative research, we explore the diversity of gender expressions and experiences outside the binary in Australia, Italy, and the United States.

The Category X project is a collaborative international project between Barbara J. Risman (University of Illinois at Chicago), William Scarborough (University of North Texas), Lucy Nichols (Western Sydney University), Sal Clark (Swinburne University of Technology, Australia), Arantxa Grau (University of Valencia), Emanuela Abbatecola  (University of Genoa), and Mariella Popolla (University of Cagliari).
